Based upon court testimony under oath that he was age 60 in [2], Roger Barton was probably born in England about
Much has been written regarding DNA testing which at first was believed to refute kinship with Rufus Barton.[3] However, examination of that testing simply points to a feasible non-paternity event as discussed in this G2G thread.
See also Research Notes below.

First Documentation in the American Colonies
The first documentation of Roger Barton in the Colonies is found in Brookhaven, Long Island town records where on 23 Oct he was one of a group engaged to lay out the town.[4] In , Roger was named deputy to the General Court and is probably the Mr Barton who was made a freeman of Connecticut at the General Assembly of 12 May [5] In the mids Barton became embroiled in a quite serious legal affair which some believe to have been more about which colony, New York or Connecticut, would control Brookhaven.
See NEHGR cited for details of the affair.[4]
Roger's wife Mary's surname is unknown, but it is believed he had only one wife who is cited in various court records as Mary Barton.[4]Her surname is not Lounsberry as is sometimes seen; that surname has been disproven.[6] It has been postulated that Roger and Mary were married before coming to the colonies.[4]
In Roger Barton purchased land in Fordham (Westchester) where the family moved.
This deed was not recorded until long after his death on 2 Dec [7]
He wrote his will, in the form of a Deed, in Between the signing of the deed and its acknowledgment by the Justice a very unpleasant affair unfolded whereby the houses of some of his children (with Roger being in one of them) were attacked by partisans of the Dutch Church.

Research Notes
A Free Space Page has been fix up for the organized endeavor for further research into the origins of Roger Barton and to help in analyzing whether he may or may not be the son of William Barton of Kent.
Filby claims his arrival was in Modern York[10] however this is a misinterpretation of documents which is detailed in the NEHGR articles on Roger Barton and descendants.[4]
DNA Notes from the Barton Historical & Genealogical Society
15 Dec The BARTON DNA Proposal () has established that Rufus Barton b.
and Roger Barton (The Immigrant) b. , alleged to be sons of Edward Barton b. , may not be brothers since their descendants (according to current pedigrees) acquire different Y-Chromosome DNA. This DNA result conflicts with many published genealogies which have been approved as "fact" for decades.
Here are some possible casuals: (1) either or both Roger and Rufus were Foster or Adopted sons of Edward, (2) either or both Roger and Rufus were not related in any way to Edward, (3) either Roger or Rufus was a non-paternity event (female infidelity) of Edward but which one?
(4) Both Roger and Rufus were sons of Edward, but there was a non-paternity event downstream from one of them.
Roger Barton settled in Brookhaven, Prolonged Island about He lived for a time in Connecticut, then went to Fordham and Westchester, New York. Descendants lived principally in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
Further research is needed to resolve this visible conflict.
Nov update: Rufus, Roger and Edward are three distinct yDNA profiles. If the three sheet trails really do come together, there are at least two non-paternity-events (NPE).
